In one of the most beautiful mountainous resorts of Troodos, namely Moniatis, important tourist development is noted and has caused a building movement in the whole region. However, Moniatis still retains its “traditional character” and natural beauty.

Warm hospitality in combination with a landscape of unique beauty, the mild climate and the altitude of Moniatis comprise the main ingredients of tourist development.

It is not random that Moniatis is considered one of the most ideal mountainous resorts. Locals and tourists enjoy its natural beauty in their luxurious mansions. Karouzis notes that “these holiday houses are only the beginning of mountainous tourism, organized quality hotels”.

What is impressive is the turnout of tourists during summer. The number of visitors is almost five times bigger that the number of permanent inhabitants. The community numbers 400 inhabitants, while tourists in summer “reach 2500”.

Locals and foreigners reside in the traditional guesthouse named “Okella” in Sayttas, or in one of the three summer camp sites. To be more specific, there is the camping site of the Holy Kiti Eparchy, the Holy Limassol Eparchy and “Logos” private school.

What is more, there are many restaurants in Moniatis, which prepare traditional dished. The will of the locals to make all visitors feel at home and taste our delicious food verify the traditional and warm hospitality of Moniatis.

Many visitors come to experience the natural wealth of Moniatis and enjoy the Nature Trails. Mesa Potamos, with its many trails and waterfalls has been aptly called “environmental lung”. The double bridge and Sayttas dam add to the beauty of the landscape.

A great number of visitors reach Moniatis so as to visit the historical monuments, such as the Monastery of Timios Prodromos, the church dedicated to Archangel Michael, and the chapels dedicated to Prophet Elias, Saint Nektarios and Zoodochos Pigi, It must be noted that the historical monastery of Timios Prodromos was built during the 15th century and attains important monuments such as the wooden-carved depiction of the crucifixion (18th century). The church dedicated to Archangel Michael was recently conserved by Antiquity Department.

Concluding, a series of cultural events take place each July and August. “Mones” Festival is co-organized by the Community Council and “Vikli” Hunting Association.
